|Coronavirus Survivor Story (Success Stories)||She believes that she contracted the coronavirus from a house party where she had a great time socializing, chatting, and listening to music. Three days later, she woke up in the morning and felt ill. She was a little bit tired, but she thought that she had just overdone it the previous weekend. So, she went to the office as usual. But in midday she started feeling worse, had a bad headache, body aches, she felt tired and a little feverish. So she went back home and started to work from home, and she took a nap in the early evening. When she woke up her temperature was 101 degrees Fahrenheit and then by the time she went to bed her temperature was 103 degrees Fahrenheit. She took some over-the-counter medicine, acetaminophen also known as Paracetamol, trade name Tylenol. And then she went to bed. The next morning thankfully her fever had come down by two degrees, 101 Fahrenheit. And at that point, she had all of these symptoms fatigue, the body aches, the headache, and the fever. But she didn’t have a cough, respiratory symptoms, tightness in her chest (or) shortness of breath. So, she didn’t think she had the coronavirus and decided to just stay home. She thought it was the flu and she could recover on her own.|
Several of her friends who were at the party were commenting on a Facebook post of another woman found to be sick and had attended that same party. She had fallen on a Tuesday the same day she had fallen sick and several people, around 12 to 15 people, who were at the party commented and said that they were sick too and had similar symptoms. And there were a total of 30 to 40 people at the party. None of them really thought it was coronavirus. But then several of her friends, who fell sick, went to their doctors. Their doctors thought that they just had the flu and didn’t think about the coronavirus. They were tested negative for the flu but they weren’t tested for the coronavirus at the doctor’s office and were sent home. It wasn’t until a few days after that, one of her friends on Facebook posted about a research study that was happening in the Seattle area called the “Seattle Flu Study“. So, they volunteered and filled out some questions, got qualified, and were sent an at-home nasal swab test kit. She did a nasal swab at home and sent it in the mail back to the researchers. About a week later, she got a phone call on March 7th saying that she had tested positive for COVID 19.
After confirmation, she did not go to the hospital. She drank a lot of water, took vitamins, and over-the-counter medicines. She also used some nasal sprays and a neti pot, more of a preventative measure.
|Thanksgiving & Message||Elizabeth Schneider’s message:|
Please stay calm and don’t panic. Though this is a pandemic, it is spread across continents. A lot of people are contracting this virus and some people are dying. Many people are asymptomatic or they have very mild symptoms and they think that it’s just a nasty cold or the flu, like myself. But that doesn’t mean that we need to brush this issue off.
Whether you are young or old, once you fall sick, you take care of yourself and in particular, the older people should try to get an appointment from their doctor’s office. Stay home, get to rest, drink a lot of water, take vitamins. It is a very serious issue and so, that’s why we need to practice self-isolation, social distancing. I believe the majority of people will recover soon like myself, but if you have any of the symptoms and if you fell ill, whether or not you’ve tested positive for the coronavirus, I would urge you to negotiate with your employer to work remotely (work from home). Cancel all your social engagements (or) major appointments to see other people. You know, that’s the way that we can help contain the spread so that we don’t overwhelm our hospitals and healthcare systems with people who are most vulnerable and susceptible to life-threatening symptoms from this disease.
Stop stocking up on things, you know, canned goods, meat, milk, bread, these are essentials and that might arise problems for the needy.
